Purpose of the Role
To contribute to the education of the whole child, attending to the intellectual, emotional, physical and social development.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budget and operates within approved parameters
- Draws up yearly, termly and weekly plans of subject matters by complying with school subject policies
- Provides an effective and stimulating environment for education by maintaining teaching area in a neat orderly condition and optimal use of teaching and learning equipment
- Administer tests as follows: – Admission and standardized attainment in order to establish reading, maths and spelling ages
- Researches the market to keep abreast with industry best practices in the field of remedial education
- Complies with all legal requirements pertaining to the teaching profession, e.g. marking the attendance registers; responsibility for the safety of children placed within his/her care; etc.
- Observes referred children to see progress in the classroom during class visits
- Remediates individual pupils with learning difficulties
- Facilitate peer-teaching training sessions to upskill teachers on basic remediation skills
- Refers children to allied specialists for further assessment
- Performs an array of administrative duties, including: – phase meetings termly to discuss testing and pupils progress, interviews, advises parents of pupils recommended for therapy, keeps accurate records and inventory of remedial equipment
- Implements safety, Health & environment programmes in the area of responsibility taking cognizance of all legal requirements

Education
- Diploma in Remedial Education Diploma or Bachelor of Education in special needs
Experience
• 2 years post graduate experience in teaching
